Dr. Ten - Map of Tokyo Savage Volume 1 Summary
Act 1: SHINOHARA Takashi
A boy with long blond hair is being raped by a poltergeist. Enter Takashi "Shino" SHINOHARA, exorcist extraordinaire! Okay, maybe he's not so extraordinaire: the poltergeist escapes. Not sure what else to do with the unconscious boy, Shino takes him home and leaves him in the care of KONOME, a boy with cat ears, who lives with him.
Shino goes to the teashop downstairs that is owned by his friend, mentor and landlord, Kira KATSURAGI. While Katsuragi scolds Shino for failing, the boy wakes up. Alas, the poltergeist hadn't escaped so much as went into hiding inside of him. Despite entreating Konome to escape, the boy, under the poltergeist's control, attacks and rapes Konome.
However, the poltergeist is surprised to find that Konome actually seems to be enjoying it. Shino arrives, but instead of intervening, he sarcastically applauds the poltergeist's foolishness in attacking an incubus. An incubus? "A real sex-proche's got a grip as strong as my left hand," Shino says. And so, while Konome, Hades' kegel champion 300 years running, holds the boy/poltergeist in place, Shino brandishes his fuda papers and does his exorcist mojo to weaken it. And then he leaves it to be devoured by the insatiable Konome.
Unfortunately for the boy, the severe shock of all the poltergeist activity has erased his memory. He has no idea who he is or where he lives. Fortunately for the boy, Shino is a softie with a habit of taking in strays. He cleans the boy up, gives him a haircut and names him "Hiro," which means "pick up" in Japanese. Katsuragi is not amused.
omake: "What can I say? He's stupid."
Since chocolate is often thought to be an aphrodisiac, it would make sense that it would be Konome's favorite food, right? Right!? He can't help himself. Too bad the combination of the aphrodisiac qualities plus his own incubus sexual power makes his nose bleed every time he eats it. Still, he happily and obliviously eats it anyway -- as often and as much as he can. And every single time, Shino scolds him for it. In this manner, Hiro is catching on to the dynamics of their relationship.
Act 2: HIRO
Two months have passed since Hiro came to live with Shino. Not a single memory of his own has returned to him. Furthermore, no one seems to be looking for him, either. Still, Shino is a kind and generous guardian, providing for him and Konome as best he can on his modest freelance exorcist income.
On this particular day, a man appears at the door -- he is wearing a schoolboy uniform and is carrying what looks like a shoebox under his arm. He asks for Shino. "This is urgent," he says. Hiro reluctantly allows this pushy man into the house and shows him to the bedroom, where Shino is sleeping. Only, Shino is not sleeping: he is having sex. With Konome. Hiro flails in horror and embarrassment, knocking the box out from under the man's arm.
Come to find out, the man is a friend of Shino's named NANASHI. He is nonplussed by what they have interrupted, and while Nanashi and Shino exchange pleasantries ("Where have you been?!"), Hiro picks up the box. In his hands, the box comes to life. It rattles and clatters. There is a doll inside -- Nanashi had brought it to Shino to be exorcised. By the time they realize what is happening, it's too late: the spirit has leapt from the doll to poor Hiro. He is no longer in control of his own body. With a shrug, Nanashi picks up Konome and the two of them leave Shino and Hiro alone.
Hiro's own consciousness can only look on helplessly while Shino speaks, not only to him, but to the entity occupying his body. The spirit craves Shino's caresses; Hiro is horrified, but Shino purrs words of comfort and encouragement. At the moment of climax, the spirit is expelled. It is that of a very small boy. Hiro wakes to Shino sitting beside him, smoking calmly. "I ate [the spirit] up. I'm letting him take his time and rest within me. Then I'll be sending him off to the heavens."
Hiro is bewildered to find that he is falling for Shino. Meanwhile, Nanashi and Konome have been gorging themselves on Katsuragi's tea and sweet bean buns.
Act 3: RYUUOUIN Miyabi
Shino is awakened by a recurring dream of the day many years before when his older brother, Hiroshi, left him alone at the orphanage. The dream disturbs him: interspersed with the child-Shino's longing for his beloved brother are his current feelings of betrayal and hatred. "I can't forgive you," he says to his brother. "I donft want to forgive you."
Later that day, while grocery shopping with Konome and Hiro, Shino is accosted by a teenage transvestite named MIYABI RYUUOUIN, who is endowed with magickal powers and large breasts. Even though they've never met, Shino quickly discovers that Miyabi has a proverbial axe to grind with him. In an instant, Miyabi summons a many-tentacled demon that snatches Hiro and rapes him right in the produce aisle.
Miyabi tells Shino that Hiro is actually a homunculus, and that he had run away during "training." He also reveals that Hiro was created from the flesh and blood of Shino's own brother, Hiroshi. At this news, Shino flashes back to that horrible day when he last saw his brother. "If you ever show yourself to me again," he had said, "I'll kill you right then and there!"
Miyabi sneeringly continues to taunt Shino, believing that Hiro's relation to Hiroshi will cause him to give the boy up. But it doesn't. Shino easily overpowers Miyabi with his own magick and rescues Hiro. While Shino comforts Hiro, Miyabi escapes and whines over the phone to his own brother, who promises to "take care of his enemy for him."
Act 4: RYUUOUIN Kyou
Nanashi stops by to visit, but finds only Hiro and Konome at home. Hiro tells him that Shino had left after receiving a phone call.
Meanwhile, Shino is waiting in an empty playground. Before long, another transvestite appears. This time, it is KYOU RYUUOUIN, Miyabi's older twin brother. Instead of the thanks he'd promised Shino over the phone, he produces a gun and starts firing! Shino is able to deflect the bullets with fuda papers, but not for long: Kyou ultimately overpowers Shino and rapes him using lube that's been laced with a deadly poison.
Nanashi suddenly appears and, sword at his throat, Kyou concedes. He tells Nanashi that he'd better get Shino to Katsuragi if he wants to save him, and vows to kill Shino the next time they meet.
Act 5: KATSURAGI Kira
Back home, an unconscious Shino is swathed like a mummy while a very worried Hiro and a very nonplussed Nanashi wait in the next room. Nanashi reassures Hiro that Shino is too far gone for a doctor, and that only Katsuragi can save him now. "It's obvious," he tells the boy, "that running a teashop is not his only profession."
In the bedroom, as he prepares to treat Shino, Katsuragi reminisces about the day when Nanashi first brought thirteen year-old Shino to him. Nanashi wanted him to take care of the boy as a "favor," reminding Katsuragi that he had a responsibility both to Shino and to him. Katsuragi is reluctant -- after all, he is the one who is responsible for the death of Shino's mother. "Nanashi wouldn't tell me why you killed her," Shino tells him solemnly, "but that doesn't matter anymore." Katsuragi sensed in Shino great power and great sadness. On that day, Katsuragi vowed to do anything to protect Shino.
Katsuragi then flashes back to the day two years before, when Hiroshi left for good. "The only thing keeping [Shino] alive is his hatred of me," Hiroshi had told him. "I want that child to continue livingceven if he hates me. That's all I ask for."
Preparations complete, Katsuragi finally begins the treatment. Much to Shino's groggy chagrin, the cure is administered in the same manner as the poison. Katsuragi does his best to be gentle, and in the end Shino is sleeping peacefully. Katsuragi muses, "This really is so ironic. By the same power that killed your mother, I was able to save you today."
Meanwhile, at the Ryuuouin household, Miyabi looks in a prisoner he has chained up in his bedroom. It is Hiroshi, and he is furious that his brother "has been turned into an invalid." Miyabi chirpily responds that he needn't worry because Katsuragi is taking care of him, a fact that is echoed by "Teacher," who is sitting in the shadows. This mysterious Teacher goes on to mock Hiroshi by telling him that Katsuragi is "a complete productcunlike that failure of a doll you created," thereby revealing that Katsuragi, too, is a homunculus. Teacher goes on to suggest, "Shall we go pay [Shino] a visit? My curiosity's also been piqued by this son whom I have not seen," thereby revealing that omgwtf he's Shino's father!!
Act 6: KINOHARA Masaki
The chapter begins with Kyou Ryuuouin presenting to Teacher an extremely thorough report on Shino -- from his history to his personality to his income and then some. Teacher is intrigued.
In the meantime, Hiro is asking Shino if he could train him so that he can protect himself from all these "incidents." Shino insists that he is in no position to train anyone, having never been instructed himself. He has been this way for as long as he can remember.
Shino flashes back to the orphanage, where he and his brother, Hiroshi, were raised. He could always see beings -- ghosts, spirits, demons -- that no one else could, and they terrified him. The priests and nuns considered him a problem child, impossible to control.Once Hiroshi left him behind to study for the priesthood at the Vatican, Shino's visions and interactions with the beings became more intense. No being was more cruel or horrifying than the shadowy spirit of the priest who oversaw the institution. It taunted Shino and raped him relentlessly.
One day, a man arrived to see Shino. With a word and a wave he banished the shadow and chided Shino for allowing that "scoundrel" to have its way with him. "Do you want to be consumed by him like this?" the man asked. No, of course not. He taught Shino how to banish it himself. "The next time he comes to you," he said, "do not fear. Then gather your power to your forehead and pray: 'All foes who do me wrong I shall destroy. Swallow them whole. Those cold-hearted monsters.'" And then he left.
Sure enough, the evil spirit returned and brutalized Shino once again. Recalling what the man taught him, Shino felt something within him awaken -- a great, horrible power. "All foes who do me wrong I shall destroy," he chanted, and with those words, the priest himself was struck dead.Shino escaped, never to learn the name of his mysterious visitor. (But we know who he is: he is the Ryuuouins' Teacher, and his name is Masaki KINOHARA.)
Back in the present time, he weeps before a bewildered Hiro and an annoyed Konome. "Ah, the light and shadow of my youth," he murmurs.
Act 7: NANASHI
Miyabi stands over Hiroshi, who is fast asleep. "I hate you. Despise you," he says. "But just wait. Your offshoot -- your little brother. I will get even with him."
Elsewhere, Shino is about to slip out to buy cigarettes when Nanashi stops him. Despite Shino's protests, Nanashi insists on accompanying him. He is certain that the Ryuuouins have a motive for their repeated attacks on Shino, and he doesn't believe that they are finished with him yet. Sure enough, Miyabi steps out of the shadows. He summons the tentacled demon; it snatches Shino up and "synchronizes" with him. Miyabi cautions Nanashi not to interfere while this is happening, and Nanashi demurs. In the instant that Nanashi's guard is down, Miyabi unleashes a horde of spaghetti monsters - they rip Nanashi to shreds.
Miyabi watches all of this carnage with an air of affected boredom and disgust. "What a shameful whore," he sneers as the demon ravages Shino. "Why is everyone so intent on looking after his worthless hide?" Miyabi's mind wanders to when he'd asked that same question of Hiroshi. Hiroshi had responded: "That is of no concern to you."
A low growl snaps him back to the present. The demon is now eyeing him hungrily. Heavy, wet footsteps approach from behind. "You don't understand, Ryuuouin?" says Nanashi. "Shinohara's nickname is 'devourer of evil spirits.' Demons, phantoms, imps, ghosts -- they are nothing but food to him. They are as malleable as children." Miyabi can't seem to decide which is more shocking: the sight of his tentacled demon coiling around Shino like a pet, or of Nanashi covered in gore, blood dripping from the stump where his arm used to be."This body is the product of a curse," he explains. "Death is but a far away dream for me."
They subdue Miyabi and return home to interrogate him.
Act 0: KONOME
This chapter is an omake (extra) that flashes back to how Shinohara first met Konome.
The first scene is of Konome being fucked hard by an unseen man. Suddenly, it's over. Konome crawls to a skull that is on the floor by him. He picks it up and embraces it.All around him are unconscious men. "Papa," he says to the skull. "Please come home."
Come to find out, Konome is living in an abandoned building that is slated for demolition. The foreman escorts Shino around the site, explaining the strange goings-on as they walk. Something has been attacking the demolition workers, draining away their life energy, wasting them away to skin and bones, and no one can figure out what it is. All of the exorcists the foreman had contacted said the same thing: get Shinohara. Shino, noticing Konome peeking at them, is intrigued; he agrees to take the job.
Shino suspects that an incubus is the culprit. Inside the building, Shino is surprised to hear a child's voice calling to him. He is even more surprised to see that it is the incubus, and it is in human form. Even though the incubus is cute and small, he easily overpowers Shino and begins to ravage him. Shino's consciousness enters that of the incubus, and he figures out what must have happened: by some fluke, the incubus was born of a human body, and he instinctively devoured his human father. Shino regains control and allows the incubus to feed off of him.
Taking pity on the incubus, Shino vows to take care of him until the day he dies. Besides, Shino notes, since the incubus is in human form, to kill him would be murder. "Guess there's no getting out of this one," he says ruefully.
