About

Intent

History

Not knowing if my yaoi hobby would continue to remain a predominant interest in my life, this site was originally thrown together with the main intent of cataloguing my collection, providing sample scans and various information that some might find useful. The obsession has shown no signs of diminishing, and I doubt it will for a long time to come, thusly I have decided to completely revamp the web site (as you see it now).

Current

I have no intention of recreating what already exists on the Internet (for the most part). There will be some overlap in that I will offer up my own buying experiences and methods for scanning etc. If any part of this web site is useful to some of the visitors here, I'm thrilled. However, this is a personal site and much of it is for my own reference purposes. It was also not that long ago that I was very green and new in this hobby, so I hope, in particular, that anyone else new to the hobby will find the information herein beneficial.

I will continue to provide sample scans from my collection (typically after they have made an appearance on Yaoi Daily). As a quick side note, I will only provide up to 10 sample scans per manga whereas my posts to Yaoi Daily are often considerably in excess of this.

This site will also house any scanlations I'm involved in. Please note that I am not a major scanlator, nor a formal group of any kind. I fall into certain projects that I have a passion for, but do not intend on creating scanlations with the same fervour as a formal scanlation group. However, I am quite passionate about being involved in the creation and distribution of Dr. Ten's translated works. The Dr. Ten Translation Project is a group of various individuals involved in translating and scanlating some of Dr. Ten's works (notably the Koisuru - Map - Passage series, as well as some doujinshi). Maple Syrup Scanlations is the non-Dr. Ten fixated group of individuals, mostly comprising of the same team as The Dr. Ten Translation Project members.

This is, first and foremost, a personal web site; a means for me to organize my collection and share with others who may be interested in the same things as myself.

Who am I?

Introduction

My name is Xandria and I began my foray into serious yaoi manga collecting in January 2004 (I blame my friend Kashuarashi, a couple Harry Potter doujinshi and Higuri Yuu's Ludwig II series). I profess to know very little and will never claim to know a great deal about the industry and hobby (although I am eager to learn as much as I can). I am, quite simply, a rabid fan. I leave all the meta discussions and analysis to others (I have opinions naturally, but largely keep them to myself unless bribed with a good cocktail or scotch). I'm here for the pretty boys, as they say.

I am also gainfully employed and happily married with a penchant for epicurean delights (particularly drink of the alcoholic variety). I have other hobbies aside from yaoi, and thusly don't spend all of what little spare time I have on just the one fascination.

On the 'Net

I have a LiveJournal blog that I update with scans, fannish thoughts and sundry incoherent ramblings. This LiveJournal is friends-only for my own reasons, but I friend almost anyone who friends that journal.

I co moderate Yaoi Daily and the Yaoi Daily Cafe with several fabulous co-mods. Yaoi Daily is an eye candy image posting community, the intent of which is to expose fans to a variety of manga and mangaka that might assist fans in their purchasing decisions. The Yaoi Daily Cafe is a more relaxed community for discussion of any aspect of yaoi.

I've worked with insaneneko on two scanlation projects:

I am currently working with a professional yaoi manga translator on Dr. Ten's The Map of Tokyo Savage, its sequel, A Passage From Servant Boy, and even more works besides.

Politics

I detest on-line politics with an obscene passion. I have witnessed the most insidious and hurtful personal games while in the Harry Potter fandom, and at times it appears that the on-line world of yaoi succumbs to the same fervour of immaturity and hostility.

Let me state for the record that I do not care who is King or Queen or all things yaoi, who knows the most publishers, who has all the connections, who is "better" etc. It's yaoi, ladies and gentlemen. I'm too old to get involved in any asinine in-fighting, games of one-upmanship etc. I am here for the pretty boys. I love to share. And guess what? I share for no reason other than I desire to. I expect nothing in return for this. I have absolutely no ulterior motives. I do not use yaoi to bolster my self confidence, manipulate others, obtain worship etc. I am here for the boys. And I like to share because sharing is fun. Yes, this bares repeating. I have more than a full life (awesome career, spectacular marriage, lots of other hobbies, and great friends) and if I dropped the yaoi hobby from my world, I, as a person, would not change. I seek nothing from no one, but from myself I live in peace and with a desire to share with others as I enjoy when others share with me their thoughts, experiences etc. Life, it is my firm belief, is all about sharing and learning from others and this is best fostered in a positive and loving environment. Hate breeds hate and I'll have none of that, thank you. I am also a firm believer in karma and I witness its unavoidable effect each and every day. I'm not about to despoil my good fortune by being childish.

The caveat to the above: I am strongly opinioned on several subject matters that arise in the world of yaoi from time to time. However, do not mistake my opinions for a call to a silly fight. Debate with me intelligently and logically, and we'll get along just fine. Rail against my opinions with obscenities and immaturity and you'll find I have less than zero interest in hearing what you say (not to mention losing any vestiges of respect I might have had in your direction).

Again -- it's yaoi. It's fantasy. It's a hobby about beautiful boys having hot relationships with other boys. Why dirty it with repulsive behaviour that is truly the antithesis of all things yaoi?

Gratitude

I would like to thank Ookami Kasumi for providing me with some of the banners you see around here. Massive thanks to Gaminette for creating the Dr. Ten Tenshi, which has gathered together some amazingly talented and engaging Dr. Ten fans.
